China-Germany Relations: The De-risking Dilemma

Cooperation between Berlin and Beijing is an opportunity, not a risk. That was the message from President Xi Jinping to Germany’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz on his second visit to China. Scholz added that Germany was committed to free trade without confrontation, while Xi warned against rising protectionism. So how might the relationship between the two countries develop following this visit?
